Atheists and Christians, should I be thankful for all the scientific censorship created by religion?
How about those ridiculous witch trials that made interesting movies like the Crucible? No? Well I am! I am glad that theories like the Germ Theory of Disease was laughed at while people insisted that sin caused disease. I am also grateful for all the censorship the Catholic Church deals out. Yes you can say that I am grateful for religions everywhere holding out society back by about 2,000-3,000 years. Seriously, atheists, aren’t you grateful for all the time wasted?
I think it is moronic to say religino censors science. You seem to be ignorant of the fact that Christianity is responsible for modern science.
On the other hand, atheists have to reject the laws of thermodynamics in order to remain atheists. The laws of thermodynamics make it clear the universe is not eternal and could not have produced itself out of absolute nothing without a cause.
The Christian West is more scientifically advanced than atheist USSR and China also. Atheist nations are always oppressive and backwards. Atheism contributes absolutely nothing of worth to any society.

I LOVED The Crucible. Totally proves that fear is a driving force behind intolerance, and religion can exacerbate it.

I’m grateful that some pedophile with a razor chopped the end of my dick off when I was a baby. Who knows what a horrible thing my foreskin could have turned into.

You mean ethics–they bother you? You would have liked Hitler’s scientific studies. No holds barred.
Law and ethics do lag behind scientific advancement. This is a good thing for all of us.
You can td me all you want. I have studied history, law, ethics, sociology, psychology, religion and science is NOT the be all and end all of humanity. Humanity thrived for many centuries without much scientific advancement and we have managed to destroy much of the earth in one century with it. Slow your butt down and think of humanity.

This fails as some kind of satire because it’s JUST A LOAD OF CRAP OK.
DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND HUMAN SOCIETY
DO YOU UNDERSTAND CONSERVATISM
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT CONSERVATISM WOULD EXIST EVEN WITHOUT RELIGION
THE CRUCIBLE IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE BECAUSE ARTHUR MILLER WAS IN FACT COMPARING THE SALEM WITCH TRIALS WITH THE COMMUNIST WITCH TRIALS IN AMERICA, WHICH HAD ONLY A MINIMAL CONNECTION TO RELIGION
FURTHERMORE, YOUR GENERALISATIONS ABOUT SCIENCE AND RELIGION ARE SO ANNOYING AND AND IRRITATING AND FALSE THAT I CAN’T EVEN ANSWER THIS QUESTION PROPERLY
Ahem. I mean. Every time an atheist or whoever it is levels this kind of criticism, it just smacks to me of the worst kind of presentism and shows a lack of knowledge of history or other societies and how they don’t think in the same way as we do.
You know, authorities in the past, both secular and religious, liked to keep a tab on knowledge. Because.. it is true, that knowledge is power, and the best way to keep a monopoly on power is a monopoly on knowledge. This is just as true with governments today as it was in Italy under the control of the Holy See.
The idea, however, that knowledge and scientific knowledge is ALWAYS a good thing is the product of a very specific type of society, namely, European since the 18th century Enlightenment. Other societies could see certain types of knowledge as dangerous – for example – knowledge of how to make nuclear weapons. Or knowledge that has turned out to reveal a lack of knowledge in the harmful side effects like global warming. So in order to keep society stable, they had to censor certain types of knowledge – and this wasn;t always scientific either.
But can’t you see how blinkered you are when you look at it from this very narrow point of view? You don’t understand past societies, you just ridicule them.

Atheists are only atheists as long as there are people of faith around to for them to fight. When atheists are in the majority, they become pantheists because they can’t stand the thought of a meaningless, pointless existence (but they also can’t stand the idea of a personal God who would tell them how to live their lives). Think of all the good scientific work that pantheists have accomplished.

We get it. You are complaining about religion

Well, things are progressing somewhat.
I can’t be burned at the stake anymore and I can actually defect from the Catholic Church.
But I’ll never be grateful for repression.

Which is it? You are a real atheist or you are clueless about what real atheists believe?
As a real atheist, you would know that whether you do what is right all your life or do the complete opposite, nothing changes. So whether the Germ Theory was accepted or rejected, nothing changed, right?
Whether society was held back for 2000 to 3000 years or the opposite, nothing changes right?
Whether a baby is murdered by the doctor in a partial birth abortion or lives to 120 years old and discovers the cures for cancer and Aids….nothing changes, right?
dust = life = dust
At the end of the day when everything is said and done, a cold hole awaits for everyone regardless of what they did or did not do. Nothing lasts. Nothing survives.
Everything is erased and returns to nothing.
It takes the existence of a heaven and hell before anything we do to matter. That is because atheism has one path as the solution to all.
But when there is a heaven and hell, a real choice exists as the end result can change with the decisions made on earth.
I know, you never looked at it that way.
Hope this helps
